WATER CONSERVATION

Water production estimates are in the order of 250 million B/D in 2007, for a water-to-oil ratio around 3:1. This was expected to increase to more than 300 million B/D between 2010 and 2012 (Dal Ferro and Smith 2007). Almost all produced water must be treated before being disposed. These costs vary based on geography, logistics and regional regulations and generally range from $2 to $14 a barrel. These costs are significant when considering that on average 3 barrels of water are produced for each barrel of oil or gas, and that produced water comprises 98% of all waste generated by petroleum exploration and production. Generally speaking, the most cost effective way to kill a well is to start with fresh water and chemically treat it as required. Whether it is sourced from a ditch, a stream, a reservoir or a fresh water well, it is still fresh water.

HOW CAN A.L.I.I. HELP?

  • A.L.I.I. eliminates the need for the use of water and other more undesirable viscous fluids to maintain well control for a pump change. A minor amount of degreaser or de-waxer is all you need to clean your sucker rod string prior to surfacing it
  • Eliminates the lost production cost in recovery of kill fluids as well as the cost of disposal of kill fluids
  • Reduces trucking costs
  • Reduces storage costs for viscous kill fluids
